3.0.17.2 Student Emergency Care For Injury And Illness (CURRENTLY UNDER REVIEW)

POLICY

Enrolled students experiencing an injury or illness on campus or while attending class or participating in University-sponsored activities receive initial treatment at the Employee Health Service (EHS) of Detroit Receiving Hospital/University Health Center (DRH/UHC). Only the initial treatment necessary for an injury or illness requiring immediate attention is covered by this policy. The student is responsible for any subsequent treatment (see APPM section 9.3.2, Emergencies).

  1. Notify Instructor/Administrator or Department of Public Safety of injury or illness immediately.

  2. Obtain Employee Health Service Referral, 10-2307,from Instructor/Administrator if treatment is required.

NOTE: In the absence of Instructor/ Administrator, contact EHS/DRH Emergency Room or Public Safety for EHS Referral form.

  1. Report to EHS for initial treatment of injury or illness during regular hours or DRH Emergency Room after hours.

Instructor/ Administrator

  1. Contact Public Safety (7-2222) to provide assistance and transportation to DRH Emergency Room for emergency treatment.

  2. For emergencies or other than normal EHS working hours, notify DRH Emergency Room that a student is in transit and should be treated through Receiving Care Service.
