3.3.5 Classification Non-Academic Positions
DEFINTION(S)
Classification | The assignment of a position to an appropriate pay grade in the classification system based on the duties and responsibilities assigned and performed. This designation is made by the Classification and Compensation Department. |
POLICY
All non-represented, non-academic positions are evaluated and classified through the application of the Hay classification and compensation system and are assigned a specific salary schedule, pay grade, and salary range. The process of job evaluation under the Hay classification and compensation system is performed by the Classification and Compensation department. All positions are evaluated based on abilities of the position incumbent. Job content is based on the Clerical/Technical Position Questionnaire, form 797, or the Administrative/Professional Position Questionnaire, form 797A, completed by the incumbent and reviewed by the supervisor and/or department head. Job content is comprised of know-how, problem solving, and accountability factors as determined by Hay evaluation points.
The Classification and Compensation Department maintains generic job descriptions for non-academic classifications in the university. A classification description is developed outlining core duties and responsibilities performed. Based on job content, the classification is assigned to a pay grade.
All represented, non-academic positions are evaluated and classified pursuant to the terms and conditions of the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.
